Sometimes it can be difficult to know how much of a product you need. We’ve provided some simple calculations to help you.

Covering An Area

Length, Width, Height of a Slab

To calculate how many cubic metres you need to cover an area, multiply the square metres by the thickness you want to apply. e.g:

52m² x 0.05m (50mm) = 2.6m³

Remember: Your measurements need to be in metres, not millimetres.

Timber

Thickness, Width of Timber

To find how many linear metres in a cubic metre, first divide 1 metre by the thickness of the wood.

1m / 0.025m (25mm) = 40

Then, divide 1 metre by the width of the wood.

1m / 0.20m (200mm) = 5

5 x 40 = 200 pieces of 1 metre in length.

Bagged Material

1,000 Litres make up 1m³. To work out how many 50 litre bags of compost will fill 1 cubic metre, divide 1,000 by the size of the bag.

1,000L / 50L = 20 Bags

Cement

16 Contractors Barrows = 1m³

Cement ratios for common uses:

5:1 for Ramps, Driveways, etc. 8 bags per m³

6:1 for Paths, Post Holes, etc. 6 bags per m³

4:1 for Mortar, Bricks, etc. 12 bags per m³
